Third-Year Guard/Forward Acquired for Future Draft Considerations

The Atlanta Hawks acquired guard/forward Saddiq Bey from the Detroit Pistons, the team announced today. Atlanta completed a four-team trade, sending a 2023 second round draft pick (the second-most favorable of Atlanta, Brooklyn, and Charlotte), its own 2024 second round draft pick (provided such pick is among 31-55 in 2024 NBA Draft) and its own 2025 second round draft pick (provided such pick is among 31-40 in 2025 NBA Draft) to Portland. Atlanta also sends its 2026 and 2028 second round draft picks to Golden State.

Bey has appeared in 52 games (30 starts) for the Pistons this season, averaging 14.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 28.8 minutes (.404 FG%, .345 3FG%, .861 FT%). The 6-8 forward has poured in 10-or-more points in 40 of his 52 games this season, including netting a season-high 31 points in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Jan. 11. In a 122-119 victory at Golden State on Jan. 4, Bey hit the game-winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer to secure a Pistons win. It marked his second career game-winner, joining his Jan. 1, 2022, contested corner triple to claim a 117-116 overtime win against San Antonio.

A 2022 Clorox Rising Star, Bey netted a career-high 51 points on 17-27 shooting from the field, in addition to a 10-14 mark from deep and 7-10 from the charity stripe at Orlando on March 17, 2022. He became the youngest player in Pistons history to score 50-or-more points (22 years, 342 days) and the first Piston to record at least 51 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in a single game.

Drafted by the Brooklyn Nets with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Bey’s draft rights were acquired by Detroit on Nov. 19, 2020, as part of a three-team trade between Detroit, Brooklyn and the LA Clippers. Through his three-year career, Bey has seen action in 204 games (165 starts), owning averages of 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 30.0 minutes (.400 FG%, .357 3FG%, .843 FT%).

A member of the 2021 All-NBA Rookie First Team, Bey played collegiately at Villanova from 2018-20, seeing action in 67 games (60 starts), averaging 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31.6 minutes throughout his two-year collegiate career (.469 FG%, .418 3FG%, .728 FT%). He was selected as the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year in 2019-20, while being a unanimous first team All-BIG EAST selection.
