Last month, in a shocking fashion the former MVP Lamar Jackson requested a trade out of the Baltimore Ravens in a tweet. The quarterback thanked his fans in a tweet for their support and clarified that he had requested the trade due to a business decision that was best for him and his family.

“I want to first thank you all for all of the love and support you consistently show towards me. All of you are amazing and I appreciate y’all so much. I want you all to know not to believe everything you read about me.” Jackson stated.

Jackson would continue, “As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the super bowl. You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I. No matter how far I go or where my career takes me, I’ll continue to be close to my fans of Baltimore Flock nation and the entire State of Maryland. You’ll See me again Truzzzzz.”

Jackson’s announcement sparked interest from several NFL teams, including the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, with the Atlanta Falcons being skeptical due to his injury history.

According to NFL.com, the Ravens, however, used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson on March 7, which is reportedly worth $32.416 million in 2023. The tag will give them until July 17 to reach a multi-year extension with the quarterback. Despite this, the NFLPA warned franchises not to negotiate with Jackson due to the fact that he does not have an NFLPA certified agent representing him.

Despite the warning, the Patriots and Colts have expressed interest in Jackson, with Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealing that rapper Meek Mill had reached out to him regarding Jackson’s wishes to play for New England. Kraft also stated that the decision ultimately lies with coach Bill Belichick.

The Colts’ GM Chris Ballard has also expressed interest in the quarterback, stating to Zak Keefer of The Athletic “anytime a special player is available — which he is — you gotta do the work”.

However, it should be mentioned that if Jackson does end up on the Patriots’ roster, the AFC East would arguably become the best division in the league, with four of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league, including Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins), Josh Allen (Bills), and potentially Aaron Rodgers (Jets).

With the NFL season months away, it remains to be seen where Jackson will end up, but whichever team comes out on top in the AFC East could potentially be the frontrunner to win the Super Bowl next February in Las Vegas. The stakes are high, and fans around the league eagerly await the next chapter in Lamar Jackson’s career.
