Following their Game 1 victory and the theft of home court advantage, the Miami Heat entered TD Garden with their sights set on another triumph. And once again, they managed to overcome a substantial fourth-quarter deficit, securing a thrilling 111-105 win against the Boston Celtics and extending their series lead to 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The game was a back-and-forth battle between two determined teams, with both the Celtics and Heat exchanging scoring runs to gain the upper hand. However, in the closing minutes of the third quarter, Boston seemed poised to break the game wide open with a 20-9 scoring run that carried over into the fourth, giving them an 11-point advantage.
However, it was during the final quarter of play that Grant Williams of the Celtics decided to “poke the bear”. He butted heads with the Heat’s Jimmy Butler and engaged in a heated exchange with the superstar. Little did he know that this confrontation would ignite a fire in the Heat, resulting in a game-changing 24-9 scoring run.
Despite their valiant efforts, the Celtics had an opportunity to even the game with less than 50 seconds remaining. Unfortunately for Boston, Gabe Vincent, who had struggled to find his shooting rhythm all night, sealed the deal for Miami with a clutch midrange jumper over Jayson Tatum, extending the Heat’s lead to four points.
The Heat’s dominant fourth-quarter performance should come as no surprise, particularly in this series. They have consistently outscored the Celtics 21-8 in clutch time, stifling Boston’s offense with remarkable defense, holding them to a mere 11% shooting and forcing five crucial turnovers.
Leading the way for the resilient Heat squad was their indomitable leader, Jimmy Butler, who posted an impressive stat line of 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Caleb Martin continued his outstanding playoff run off the bench, contributing 25 points to the team’s victory. Meanwhile, Bam Adebayo nearly achieved a triple-double, tallying 22 points, 17 rebounds, and 9 assists.
On the Celtics’ side, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown carried the scoring load. Tatum nearly recorded a triple-double with 34 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists, while Brown added 16 points and 4 rebounds to his team’s effort. Contributions also came from Malcom Brogdon and Robert Williams III, each scoring 13 points, with Williams III maintaining a perfect shooting record through the first two games of the series.
With the Miami Heat securing two road wins at TD Garden to start the Eastern Conference Finals, the pressure now falls on the Boston Celtics. They face the daunting challenge of heading to Miami for Games 3 and 4, where the Heat boast a flawless home record throughout this year’s playoffs. Boston will need to summon all their strength and resilience to overcome the adversity in hopes to turn the tides in this series.
