After a week of rest, the Miami Heat arrived in Boston with a clear mission: steal Game 1 of the series. And steal it they did. In a stunning performance, the Heat outplayed the Celtics to secure a 123-116 victory, snatching homecourt advantage in the Eastern Conference Finals. The pivotal moment came in the third quarter when Miami unleashed a barrage of 46 points, setting a new franchise record for the highest-scoring quarter.

The game was a tightly contested battle between two Eastern Conference powerhouses, with the lead changing hands 18 times and the score tied on 14 occasions. Although the Celtics managed to outscore the Heat in three of the four quarters, including a strong second quarter run that gave them a 13-point lead at one point, Miami’s resilience and determination shone through.

Just when it seemed like the momentum was swinging in Boston’s favor, the Heat responded with a remarkable 21-7 run in the third quarter, recapturing the lead and extending it to as much as 12 points. Miami refused to take their foot off the gas pedal, even as the Celtics mounted a late surge to bring the game within four points with less than three minutes remaining.

The hero of the night for Miami was none other than Jimmy Butler, the playoff scoring leader from the previous season. Butler showcased his skills with an outstanding performance, tallying 35 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and a career-high 6 steals. While he led the charge, he received ample support from his co-star Bam Adebayo, who contributed 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Additionally, the Heat’s role players stepped up in a big way, with Kyle Lowry, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, and Caleb Martin all scoring at least 15 points.

On the Celtics’ side, Jayson Tatum led the team with 30 points and 7 rebounds, despite struggling in the final quarter, failing to make a single field goal and committing three turnovers. Jaylen Brown also had a strong showing, adding 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists to the Celtics’ effort. Malcolm Brogdon contributed 19 points, while Marcus Smart chipped in with 13 points and 11 assists.

With this victory, the Miami Heat continue to display their resilience in the playoffs, as they are the only team across this year’s playoffs with an above .500 record (.714 to be exact) when trailing by 10 points or more. As they head into Game 2 at TD Garden on Friday night, the Heat will be determined to extend their advantage before returning home to Miami for Games 3 and 4.
