The Miami Marlins (5-7) were able to turn their fortunes around against the Philadelphia Phillies (4-7) on Tuesday night, following a heavy 15-3 defeat the night before. It was a significant win for the Marlins, who managed to bounce back in style, taking the game 8-4.
The game was particularly noteworthy for the Marlins as they made franchise history with Luis Arráez completing the team’s first-ever cycle. Arráez’s impressive feat included a double in the first inning, a triple in the sixth, a home run in the seventh, and a single in the eighth. He also contributed two RBIs, cementing his place as one of the stars of the night.
The Marlins had a strong team performance, with Jon Berti hitting a homerun in the third inning and contributing two RBIs. Jazz Chisholm Jr. also had a standout moment with a triple RBI, while Fortes, Soler, and Guriel each added an RBI of their own.
Despite their loss, the Phillies had some impressive moments, with Kyle Schwarber finally getting the team on the scoreboard with a solo homerun in the sixth inning, as well as an RBI. The team also received RBIs from J.T. Realmuto and Bryson Stott.
On the pitching front, Jesús Luzardo secured his second win of the season, pitching for six innings and striking out five while allowing eight hits, three runs, three walks, and one homerun. Huascar Brazobán had a solid outing in his two innings, striking out four and allowing three hits, one run, and one walk.
In contrast, Aaron Nola had a challenging night, pitching for 5.2 innings with six strikeouts but allowing nine hits, four runs, four walks, and one homerun. The Phillies used four different pitchers throughout the game in an attempt to limit the Marlins’ hitting success.
The three-game series between the Marlins and the Phillies concludes this afternoon at 4:05 pm, with Edward Cabrera taking the mound for the Marlins and Zack Wheeler for the Phillies. The Marlins will be hoping to build on their success from the previous night and clinch the series win, while the Phillies will be looking to bounce back from their defeat.
